Jonathan M. Parisen (born 26 December 1971) is an American film-maker and painter who wrote, produced and directed Stairwell: Trapped in the World Trade Center, the first dramatization of the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City.
Parisen has directed four feature films:
- 800 (1998), the only film dealing with the 1996 TWA flight 800 disaster over Long Island, New York
- The Atomic Space Bug (1999), a horror film that paid tribute to the horror films of the 1950s and starred B-movie legend Conrad Brooks (Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space)
- Stairwell: Trapped in the World Trade Center (2002) the first 9/11 dramatization
- A Conversation with Norman (2005), a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960). (A Conversation with Norman premiered in New York City on 13 July 2005, just three days short of the original New York premiere of Psycho 45 years earlier._
In 1997 Parisen co-wrote Class of Nuke ’Em High Part 4, the still unproduced sequel to the popular Troma Studios series Class of Nuke ’Em High.
Parisen serves on the board of the Rec-Youth Multimedia film festival (film festival showcasing youth produced movies) which occurs once a year at Tribecca Cinemas in New York City.
Parisen works as an instructor of Journalism and Television performance at the Connecticut Schools of Broadcasting.
In 2003 and 2004, Parisen worked as a television reporter for Time Warner Cable in New York City. He covered such stories as the Port Mobil Explosion in February 2003, the 2003 North America blackout, and the 2003 Staten Island Ferry crash
In 2004 Parisen was appointed as a member of the Richmond County Democratic Party by the late New York Assemblyman John Lavelle.
In June 2006 Parisen was one of over two hundred film directors who worked on the documentary A Broad Way which is due out in late 2007.
As of December 2008, Parisen is in production on a film inspired by the internet suicide of Florida teenager Abraham Biggs, the film is entitled "Watch Me Die." The film Starring Alan Serrano will have a cast of hundreds of actors who will be portraying on-line viewers of a college students public death on the internet.
Parisen can be seen in the Ron Pearlman horror film "I Sell The Dead" which was released in 2008.
Parisen has been interviewed about his work in films,as a still photographer and as a painter by ABC News, NY1 News and "Beyond Race" Magazine where he was compared to artist Andy Warhol in their similarities in being involved in different art forms.
As a painter, still photographer and an avant-garde filmmaker Parisen goes under the name Jon Par.
January 2009 under the name Jon Par he began work on the 1000 Minimalist Films Project 2009. The project was completed on December 29, 2009. Many of the films star actors Alan Serrano and Mario Johnson.
March 2009 Parisen had the first showing of his paintings at the CCCP Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.
Parisen has recently stepped into the music field managing rap artist Rob Frank.
May 2009 Parisen began work on "The Cup of Noodles Project" an art project featuring art books and paintings of "Cup of Noodles" that he has been leaving in public places for people to find and keep. To date Parisen has made 47 art books containing a total of 3000 drawings of the Cup of Noodles image and 9 paintings.
June 2009 Parisen was rushed to the hospital where emergency surgery was performed on him to remove his gall bladder. Parisen was released from the hospital eight days after the surgery was performed.
August 2009 Parisen has wrapped up production on his short film "Watch Me Die" which is scheduled to be released in early 2011.
January 2010 Parisen has begun work on 1000 more minimalist films for 2010.
October 2010 Parisen creates the "LFK" (Left-Found-Kept) Project, an art project where he leaves 4X6 framed watercolor paintings around New York City for people to find and keep.
January 2011 Parisen begins work on "The Coca Cola Project." A photography project where he will feature photographs of all things Coca Cola related that he comes across in his travels.
February 26, 2011 Parisen completed his short film "Adrift." The film which is about an astronaut accidentally sent adrift into outer space premiered on the internet.
August 2011 Parisen goes into production on his fifth feature film about a giant robot that attacks New York City. The film entitled "Terrobot" is scheduled to be released in the Summer of 2013.
