Joseph Leonard Burley

Joseph Leonard Burley (1878 – 24 May 1966) was the founder of the Burley Football Company, which later became part of the Burley-Sekem group.

He married Rose Ellen Walsh (deceased). They had three children: Dorothy (born 1900), Grace (born 1906) and John (born 1916) all deceased. Burley is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia.

He is a brother of Frederick R Burley, founder of Berlei Bras.

Joseph was involved in the development and promotion of the Australian rules football game in Western Australia. Among many philanthropic activities, he sponsored a tour of Tasmania by the East Perth Football Club in the 1930s.

His collection of early football photographs are housed in the J S Battye Library in Western Australia.
