Don Juan Valentín de Todos los Santos Urdangarín y de Borbón (born 29 September 1999), in Basque: Joan Balentín Urdangarin de Borbon, is the eldest son of the Duchess and Duke of Palma de Mallorca, Infanta Cristina of Spain and Iñaki Urdangarín. Juan is seventh in the line of succession to the Spanish Throne, after his mother.

Baptism[edit]

The newspaper ABC reported that, upon birth, he measured 53 cm and weighed 4.030 kg.

Three months after his birth in Barcelona, the young member of the Spanish Royal Family was baptized on 12 December 1999 in the city's Zarzuela Palace. ¡Hola! online magazine wrote that the baptism was performed by the Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela. According to Royal Family tradition, the holy water used to baptize Juan was from the River Jordan.

Juan's godparents include his aunt, the Infanta Elena and his uncle Mikel Urdangarín.[1] He was named Juan in honor of his great-grandfather, the Count of Barcelona and his grandfather, the King of Spain; and Valentín, after his father's great-grand-uncle, Saint Valentín of Berriochoa, or Berriotxoa, and "Todos los Santos" (English: "All Saints") as is customary among the Bourbons. ABC indicated that he was also named Juan to honor his paternal grandfather, Juan Mariá Urdangarín. Sometimes the family, and even the media, call him "Juanito", in line with the common practice for Spanish boys to have the affectionate "ito" added to their names.

Personal details[edit]

Juan Valentín lives with his parents and his siblings in Washington DC. Juan enjoys riding his bike, going to handball games and to Palma de Mallorca for the much-celebrated Spanish Regatta season. He, Pablo Nicolás and another brother, Miguel, are also fans of FC Barcelona.

Titles[edit]

Since birth he carries the style "His Excellency". All the children of Infanta Cristina and Infanta Elena have the HE Don/Doña style, as befits the children of an Infanta of Spain.[2] Although they don't have a title, all grandchildren of King Juan Carlos are members of the Spanish Royal House.
