[edit] Early Years

Justin Meacham attended Huntington Beach High School in Huntington Beach, California. In 2000, a wrong diagnosis by a psychiatrist and the resulting prescription of an SSRI anti-depressant triggered mania, a severe side effect of anti-depressants that can occur when taken by people with a family history of bipolar disorder. After leaving Suburban Legends in 2000, Justin overdosed on dextromethorphan, as a suicide attempt, and ended up in a psychiatric hospital in which he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Soon after being released from the hospital Justin was asked to join Avenged Sevenfold, earning the stage name Justin Sane. Justin replaced the bands former bassist Matt Wendt, and was later replaced by Johnny Christ.

[edit] Suburban Legends

The band had had many line-up changes over the years. Early drummer Jimmy Sullivan left around 1999. Meacham, the band's bassist, left around 1999. Both went on to join Avenged Sevenfold, with Sullivan taking the name "The Rev" and Meacham taking "Justin Sane".

[edit] Avenged Sevenfold: (2000-2001)

During his time with Avenged Sevenfold, Meacham played all their shows in 2001. In 1999-2000, the band produced two demos of what would later be their debut album the demos entitled 1999 Demo and 2000 Demo, respectively. As a follow up to this, in 2001, Justin was featured playing Bass and Piano on the album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. Although his problems worsened, he continued to play bass for the band and was featured on the Warmness on the Soul. On the EP, a video for Warmness on the Soul could be viewed, which featured Justin playing bass in the video while drinking, and hanging out with band. Soon after this video was made and released to the public, Justin was released from his contract with the band, because of a suicide attempt he made. Meacham left the band on good terms.

Justin was featured on City of Evil playing piano in a few of the songs on the album.

He has not been publicly heard from since, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

[edit] Pinkly Smooth: (2001-2002)

Justin was also a part of Pinkly Smooth, a side project that featured current Avenged Sevenfold members Synyster Gates and The Rev. Justin is featured on bass on the only album the band produced in 2001, entitled, Unfortunate Snort. In 2002, the band went on a hiatus and has been disbanded ever since. There have never been any thoughts of the band getting back together, although The Rev and Synyster Gates state that they are forming a new sideproject which will have two Pinkly Smooth songs on its first record.

[edit] Suicide Attempt

After he was released from the hospital, it "was as if he was on acid all the time." (M. Shadows). The medical term is psychosis, a common symptom found in severe mental illness including bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia. A good source of information on mental illness is NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). The songs "I Won't See You Tonight" (Part 1 and Part 2), were written about Justin. Part 1 tells the story from the side of Justin and is based on the suicide note he left. Part 2 is from the perspective of a friend of his and how his suicide attempt has affected his friends and family. Another song called "Shattered By Broken Dreams" from Sounding The Seventh Trumpet was also written about Meacham. This song was written under the perspective of the band.
