Radio Kansas is a network of public radio stations serving central Kansas. The network is based at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, a suburb of Wichita. It is comprised of flagship KHCC-FM (90.1 FM in Hutchinson and two full-time satellites, KHCD (89.5 FM) in Salina and KHCT (90.9 FM) in Great Bend.[1][2] The three stations air a mix of classical music and National Public Radio programming.
The flagship station, KHCC, first signed on in 1972 as a 50-watt student station. On April 1, 1979, it became the state's third full NPR member. KHCD was added in 1988, and KHCT joined the network in 1992. Radio Kansas now claims an audience of over one million people, and recently asked the FCC for permission to add a fourth station in Emporia.
