K.K. Nagar (shortened from Kalaignar Karunanidhi Nagar) is a small township located in the southern part of Chennai, India. This is situated west of Ashok Nagar and the Chennai Airport is around 10 km southwest of this place. K.K. Nagar was a locality developed in the 1970s and early 1980s along with the neighbourhood of Ashok Nagar covering a total area of 7 sq km. K.K. Nagar is roughly 5 km² in area. K.K. Nagar is organized by sectors and streets, and there are 15 sectors, and around 102 streets.
K. K. Nagar region is connected by roads with other important regions of the city. The region has a MTC Bus terminus located on Anna Main Road, which handles about 171 services a day. Vadapalani is the nearest commercial area to K. K. Nagar. One has to travel a good 12 km to reach the Chennai Central Station (Park Town) from here. Mambalam railway station is the nearest suburban railway station to the place, located 6 km to the south east of the place. Chennai Airport lies to the southwest of K. K. Nagar and about 10 km from the place. The Chennai Metro upon completion would significantly enhance the connectivity of this locality to other areas in Chennai including the Central railway station and the airport.
This region is one of the few planned townships in the city. The region is spread as a rectangular landmass with traversing roads running through the region. The locality has a number of apartments inhabited by the people living in this part of the city. The entire region consists of 12 rectangular blocks otherwise called Sectors. In addition to these, there are nearly 100 streets distributed across the 14 sectors. The divisions are marked by straight roads running from north to south and from east to west of the region. K.K. Nagar is a well planned and designed area like Chandigarh. The 12 sectors at K.K. Nagar are developed, 3 in rows and 4 in columns. Each sector has 6 to 7 streets and a park at the middle.
Public Service Amenities in this locality include Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Office, ESIC Hospital, BSNL Telephone Exchange, Chennai Metro Water Office, MTC Bus Terminus, Post Office (Suboffice) and Sewage Treatment Plant. There are quite a number of services and facilities providers in the suburb precincts. Apartments, schools, local markets, hospitals and easy access to the city centers are some common features of the place.

Rajan Salai), Pillaiyar Kovil, Bhuvaneshwari Amman Koil, Bharathidasan Colony, Hotel Saravana Bhavan (opposite K.K. Nagar bus terminus), Double Tank, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School (on Alagirisamy Salai), Amman Kovil, M.G.R Nagar, Ayyappan Kovil, Pondicherry Guest House, Mahadevan's House and Nesapakkam.
Major schools in the area include Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) Senior Secondary School, Vani Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, Velankanni Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sri Krishnaswamy Matriculation Higher Secondary School (also known as M.A.K School), Springfield Matriculation, Avichi High School, Thai Satya High School, All Angels Higher Secondary Matriculation School. Meenakshi Engineering College is located at Vembuli Amman Kovil Street.
The exclusive kids after-school centre for Reading and English Language Development - Spring and Zoom is located on Ramasamy road. Every year Spring and Zoom conducts events for children and adults as part of Madras Day Celebrations. In 2011 Spring and Zoom initiated the volunteer group Namma Arcot Road.
Restaurants: Major eateries in the area include Saravana Bhavan, Bombay Chat, Anand Bakery, Data Udipi Hotel, Maapillai Virundhu, Hotchips, Matta Fast Food, Food Corner & Dosa Corner in Bharathidasan Colony. There are also plenty of smaller shops which serve fast food and snacks. Bismi Biryani Center, Indian Fast Food (on a caravan), Thalappakattu Biriyani shop, Anjugam Foods, MKS Fast food etc. are a few fast foods here.siddha & ayurveda clinic is there in 2nd sector.
The latest developments being Mode (Gents Readymade Showroom), Cafe coffee day (CCD),Lakme salon, Cake Point, Cake World, Creamy Inn, Ibaco and Milky way. Other Significant Stores include Fab India, Reebok, Bata, Cotton Zone, Cotton City etc. The development of Chandra Metro Mall in Valasaravakkam has paved way for more shopping to the residents of KK nagar, including The Fame National Multiplex Theatres, Pantaloons, Big Bazar, E-Zone etc.
The Sivan Park is located on P.T. Rajan Road. The park is one of the well maintained and lush land area in the locality. The Tamil Nadu Housing Board originally developed the park when the K.K. Nagar Housing layout was developed. It was later handed over to the Municipal Corporation. The park has replicas of various national monuments, such as the India Gate. It is the only Corporation-maintained park where there is a 15-ft-high statue of Lord Shiva, depicted in a posture of meditation. The statue is designed such that water, representing Ganga, flows down from the head from a height of about 15 ft providing a cascading effect. Tree varieties in the park include peltophorum, rain tree and gulmohar and shrubs varieties include acalypa, creepers and ground cover. There is also a nursery that sells plants.
This is the street running between Nesapakkam at one end and leading to Vadapalani/Virugambakkam at the other. It runs to approximately one kilometre. Pondicherry House is a major landmark in this street. A number of banks - SBI, ICICI (this ATM was notoriously popular for beating the queues in the bank branches!), UTI, IDBI - have put up their ATMs in this street. The Nesappakkam branch of Indian Overseas Bank is in this street, towards the Virugambakkam/Vadapalani end. Opposite to KVB is a PTC bus depot, within which is a ticket printing press of the PTC is present. Nowadays, the RTA also conducts its two-wheeler driving test inside the premises. New shops have now been opened in Munusamy Salai like the Cotton City, Just Eats, etc....... The road that looks very busy at morning and evening times. Both sides of the road having trees.
Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan school is located on this street. The middle stretch of the street is almost wholly occupied by the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan school with Milkyway, an ice cream outlet towards the end.
Alagirisamy Salai also is the home of a Homeopathy clinic, Beauty Parlor, Yoga centre, Fine Arts Training centre (training Dance/Music/Stringed Instruments), Coffee Day outlet, Dental Care centre, Stationery Shop/Bookstore [Selection Centre (Look n pick)], Lending Library, a Kodak Photo studio and a couple of Pharmacies, Photocopy shops, Cloth tailors and internet cafés.
ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have their 24-hour ATMs situated on this street.
Milkyway, an ice cream parlour ; Anand Bakery, a famous eatery ; Emilio's, An Italian Gelato shop ; Cee n Select.
Lakshmanaswany Salai is one of the well known roads of K.K. Nagar.
HDFC Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank have their ATMs situated here while Indian Overseas Bank and Punjab National bank also have their fully functioning bank offices alongside their ATMs. K.K. Nagar Post Office (Suboffice) is also located on the road.
Adyar Bakery, a couple of pharmacies, three departmental Stores, a Cloth tailor, an electronic repair shop, a library (Bookworm's library), and two Aavin milk booths are also located on this street.
Buses stop in three different locations on this road. A lot of residential projects have been coming up and this road is known well for the green trees it has been maintaining.
This too is a well known road, in K.K. Nagar. It harbours supermarkets such as Grace, Vimala, and banks such as City Union Bank. Amman Koil which is famous, is located on this road nearby 10th Sector. The exclusive after-school centre Spring and Zoom - Centre for Reading and English Language Development is also located here.
This is one of the road which connects Ashok Nagar and K.K. Nagar. There is a small park, which is used by local residents for doing Yoga and other physical exercise (Triangular ground). This is the road where the K.K. Nagar telephone exchange is situated.
- The first branch of the now famous Hotel Saravana Bhavan was started here in K.K. Nagar.
- After the bomb blasts in Uttar Pradesh on 23 September, there was another mail circulated in the internet, claiming K.K. Nagar to be a potential terrorist target. The mail claimed explosions would go off on November 30, which led to panic and the closure of the major schools in the area. They were later found to be hoax.
