[edit] History

The station signed on June 3, 1955. Its original studio facilities were located on Jefferson Street in downtown Lafayette. It has always been a CBS affiliate, though it aired some ABC programming until KATC signed on in 1962. During the late 1950s, the station was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network.[1]

[edit] Coverage

KLFY TV is broadcast to and gathers news over the South Central Louisiana area known as the region of "Acadiana." This includes the Parishes (Counties) of Lafayette, Saint Martin, Saint Landry, Evangeline, Acadia, Vermilion, Iberia, Saint Mary, and Jefferson Davis.

[edit] News programming

The station's newscasts, known as "Eyewitness News," dominated the ratings in Acadiana for several decades. Over the past few years viewership has been shifting in the market and competitor KATC has gained ground. Over two decades until 2005, KLFY used the news theme Hello News by Gari Communications and an accompanying slogan Hello Acadiana. The station has once again picked up the campaign with viewer submissions with great success.

On December 28, 2011, KLFY became the first television station in the Lafayette market to begin broadcasting its local newscasts in high definition. The station also debuted a brand new logo, graphics package and set.

KLFY is well known in the market for its local morning show, Passe Partout, and its noon show, Meet Your Neighbor. Both have been on the air for over 50 years.

[edit] Weather

TV-10's Weather Department utilizes "Live Doppler 10 Stormtracker" for live up to date weather forecasts and branding.

Weather coverage is featured prominently throughout station branding promotions. The station also has the weather department record meteorological updates for broadcast on a local radio group under the branding "TV Ten (station ID) Weather Center." In return the radio group's presenters promote the Eyewitness Newscasts and website.

[edit] Online content

KLFY's website www.klfy.com has a variety of news and lifestyle topics. Each weekday, usually around 7 pm, the news department uploads the TV-10 Webcast. This is a program dedicated to the top news stories seen on the Eyewitness News @ 5 and 6 programs. The website does see a lot of traffic and is used by the Eyewitness News Team to help gather (through message boards and email) and disseminate stories.

[edit] Syndication

KLFY airs syndicated programs, including Live with Regis and Kelly, Dr. Phil, Judge Judy, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Entertainment Tonight and The Insider. Aired overnight are several syndicated but lesser known programs including Tim McCarver, The Lighter Side of Sports, and The Outdoorsman.

[edit] Commercial advertising

KLFY is a strong provider of commercial television advertising in the Central Louisiana region. Passe Partout and Meet Your Neighbor are typically accompanied by paid live remotes promoting local car dealers, furniture stores and other commercial businesses. Also the station airs several paid programs (infomercials, newsmercials, etc) including Jack Van Impe Presents.
