It operates on 1550 on the AM dial and 89.1 on the FM dial with a combination of news and National Public Radio format during the day and jazz in the evenings. KUAZ-FM has a translator 91.7 FM in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and simulcast as KUAZ on 1550 on the AM dial from sunrise to sunset only.

The AM station originally was a commercial operation known as KFIF, whose owner gave the daytime-only license to The University of Arizona when he obtained a 24-hour license at 580 AM and put KIKX on the air.
