KZCO-LP, UHF analog and digital channel 27, is an Azteca-affiliated television station located in Denver, Colorado, United States. The station is owned by the E. W. Scripps Company, and is a sister station to ABC affiliate KMGH-TV (channel 7). The two stations share studio facilities located on East Speer Boulevard in Denver's Speer neighborhood (to the immediate north of the studios shared by KWGN-TV (channel 2) and KDVR (channel 31)); KZCO maintains transmitter facilities atop Lookout Mountain, near Golden.
The station's signal is relayed on low-power translator station KZCS-LP (channel 23) in Colorado Springs and KZFC-LP (channel 36) in Windsor. Even though KZCO-LP has a digital signal of its own, the low-powered broadcasting radius does not reach most of the Denver market outside of the city proper. Therefore, the station is simulcast over KMGH-TV's second digital subchannel in order to reach the entire market. This signal can be seen on VHF channel 7.2 from a transmitter atop Lookout Mountain, near Golden.
The station first signed on the air in 2003 as KCIN-LP, and was founded by McGraw-Hill. In 2005, the station changed its call letters to KZCO-LP. On October 3, 2011, McGraw-Hill announced that it would exit from broadcasting and sell KMGH-TV, KZCO and its other television stations to the E. W. Scripps Company. The sale was completed on December 30, 2011.
In 2013, KZCO signed on a digital signal on UHF channel 17 to serve as a fill-in translator of KMGH-TV, which has experienced issues with signal reception in portions of the Denver market since the June 12, 2009 digital television transition due to that station operating its digital signal on VHF channel 7, which is prone to signal interference.
The station's digital channel is multiplexed:
|Channel||Video||Aspect||PSIP Short Name||Programming|
|7.1||720p||16:9||KMGH-TV||Simulcast of KMGH-TV / ABC|
|7.2||480i||4:3||Azteca||Main KZCO-LP programming / Azteca|
