Kalimpong (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is an assembly constituency in Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Overview[edit]

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 22 Kalimpong (Vidhan Sabha constituency) covers Kalimpong municipality, Kalimpong I community development block, Kalimpong II community development block, and Gorubathan community development block.[1]

Kalimpong (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 4 Darjeeling (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]

2011[edit]

In the West Bengal state assembly election, 2011, Harka Bahadur Chhetri of GJM defeated his nearest rival Prakash Dahal of GNLF.

1977-2006[edit]

In the 2006, 2001 and 1996 state assembly elections, Gaulan Lepcha of GNLF won the Kalimpong seat defeating his nearest rival Norden Lama, Independent/ABGL. Contests in most years were multi-cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Nima Tshering Moktan, Independent, defeated Mohan Singh Rai of CPI in 1991. Mohan Singh Rai of CPI defeated Tashi Tshering Lepcha of Congress in 1987. Renu Leena Subba, Independent/ABGL, defeated Badrinarayan Pradhan, Independent, in 1982, and Gajendra Gurung of Congress in 1977.[2]

Gajendra Gurung of Congress won in 1972. Madan Kumar Subba of IGL won in 1971. P.L. Subba of IGL won in 1969. K.B. Gurung of Congress won in 1967. Lakshmi Ranjan Josse of IGL won in 1962. Nar Bahadur Gurung, Independent, won in 1957. Lalit Bahadur Kharga of CPI won in 1951, independent India’s first election.[3]
