[edit] Career

[edit] Music

Kamaal was initially quite hesitant to enter the music industry but after much persuasion by his elder brother Jamal, Kamaal finally agreed to take up a career in music. In 1995 he wrote and produced his first song "O Oh Jaane Jaana" at Yojo Working Studios in Kensal Road, London. The song released in 1996 becoming an instant hit and eventually went on to achieve platinum status.[2] The song also featured in the 1998 Bollywood blockbuster Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya starring Salman Khan and Kajol. The soundtrack went on to become a multi-million selling album and the huge success of the movie has widely been attributed by film pundits to the popularity of "O Oh Jaane Jana". As a result of his successful debut single, Kamaal was immediately signed by record label HMV (India) in December 1997.

In 1999 Kamaal Khan won the "R.D.Burman" Filmfare Award for the "Most Promising Upcoming Talent" becoming the first UK born winner of the coveted Filmfare Award since its introduction in 1954. He has also been nominated for numerous Channel [V], FIlmfare, ZEE and MTV awards for both singing and acting.

Kamaal went on to achieve further success with his solo albums O Oh Jaane Jana (1998),[3] Suno To Deewana Dil (2000)[4] and "Kal Raat" (2003). MTV award winning director Shivraj Santhakumar collaborated with Kamaal to shoot a music video for Kal Raat in Rome. Rumour has it that the music video caught the eye of Bollywood director Rahul Rawail and landed Kamaal his debut acting role.

As a popular live performer, Kamaal has performed over 250 concerts across the globe visiting 127 cities in 27 countries.

Current projects include a "Best of Kamaal Khan" album which will feature reworked versions of his earlier hits as well as new bonus tracks. Kamaal's last release is the song titled "Ishq Vishq" featured in Salman Khan's hit movie "Wanted" (2009).

[edit] Film and television

In May 2005 Kamaal made his acting debut (becoming the first UK born male of Indian origin to appear in a lead role in a Bollywood feature film) as the main antagonist in director Rahul Rawail's Jo Bole So Nihaal starring alongside Sunny Deol.

Kamaal appeared in NDTV Imagine's reality television show Dhoom Macha De. The 26 episode series marked the global launch of the TV channel NDTV Imagine.
