Kanina is a town and a municipal committee in Mahendragarh district in the north Indian state of Haryana.

The town,Kanina Khas, came into existence around 700 years ago when a forefather named Kanha came to this place from a village Bhiri Chhapar of Bhiwani district in Haryana. It is a heresay that the present name of Kanina Khas was derived from the name Kanha. Kanina Khas is also a Tehsil which houses many Govt Offices for nearby villages. This town has one of the oldest food-grain market in Haryana state. Kanina Khas is also,therefore, famously called as Kanina Mandi. This mandi supplies both 'RABI' and 'KHARIF' crop products all over the country. The population of the town is around 20,000.Kanina Khas is epi-centre for around 60 villages from Mahendergarh, Bhiwani and Rewari districts.

Kanina is located at 28°17′N 76°12′E / 28.29°N 76.20°E. It has an average elevation of 262 metres (859 feet).

Some of the major Schools in Kanina are : S.M.Geeta High School, G.L.P.S, D.A.V. Public School, R.C.M Public School, R.R.C.M Public School, SadaSukh Public School, S.N.D Aadarsh School, Geeta Pulic School, Euro International School. There are four Government Schools in Kanina. Both DAV College of Engineering and Technology and Pitamah Kanh Singh Degree College in Kanina are affiliated to Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak.

As of 2001[update] India census,[1] Kanina had a population of 10,196. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Kanina has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 59%. In Kanina, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.(here literacy means minimum Matriculation).

SQUADRON LEADER JASBIR SINGH YADAV is MBA in Marketing. He is also National and International Medalist in Athletics and Cross-Country. Besides these dignitories one Mr. Omprakash working with GOI is the first IES from Kanina and Mr. Kailash Chander Gupta Adv is also working as Deputy Advocate General for Govt of Haryana.
