Karwi (25°12′N 80°54′E / 25.2°N 80.9°E) is a town in Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh in India. Before the Sepoy Mutiny it was the residence of a Maratha noble, whose accumulations constituted the treasure afterwards famously known as the Kirwee and Banda Prize Money. It comes under the Karwi tehsil. The town has its own railway station. The town of Kirwee in New Zealand's Canterbury region was named after Karwi by a retired British Army colonel. the city has rail connections to major cities like delhi kolkatta jabalpur kanpur luckhnow famous doctors in karwi Dr surendra agarwal, dr mahendra gupta, dr mahendra singh famous lawyers ashok gupta, adarsh kumar srivastava.
