[edit] History

Kavaja Mosque and Clock Tower

Early Ottoman records of the late 16th century mention of a small establishment in the present territory under the name of Kavalje. It's unclear how Kavajë got its current name as little historical data exists on record. During the summer of 1990, anti-government riots erupted all over the city which later contributed to the toppling of the Communist Regime in Albania.

[edit] Landmarks

Kavaja is home to a mosque and a clock tower. Southwest of the city, at the Adriatic Sea coast there are several beach side facilities. A well known is Plazhi i Gjeneralit beach equipped with camping, wooden cabins, and catering facilities. Other beach areas are located near the village of Spille.
