Kayalpattinam is a Municipality in Thoothukudi district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Kayalpattinam is located at 8°34′N 78°07′E / 8.57°N 78.12°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 6 metres (19 feet).

As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Kayalpattinam had a population of 32,672. Males constitute 46% of the population and females 54%. Kayalpattinam has an average literacy rate of 79%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 78%. In Kayalpattinam, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Most of the Kayalpattinam people follow shadhiliyya (Fassiyatush shazuli) Faasiyatush shadhiliya Tariqa and the HQ of this tariqa in Tamil Nadu zawiyatul fassiyatush shadhiliya is located here. Kayalpattinam people also follow Qaadiriyya sufi order also and HQ of this thareeqa available at Mahlara located here.
