[edit] History

The 8000 series services began in 1992, with 14 six-car and four-car sets of 0-subseries. Later 13 eight-car sets were built, these were classified as 20-subseries, also called '8020' class.

Six-car and four-cars sets (and occasionally a pair of four-car sets) used to be operated on splitting services which separated and re-joined at Takahatafudō Station: Special Express (until September 2006) and Express (until March 2001). Now all six-car and four-car 0-subseries sets are connected as 10-car trains (6M4T) and mainly used for daytime Special Express and Semi special Express services on the Keiō Line and Takao Line.

The eight-car 20-subseries sets are used alone, mainly on daytime Local and Rapid services.

The 8000-series trains are used exclusively on Keiō Corporation lines. Unlike some other Keiō trains, they do not continue past Shinjuku on to the Toei Shinjuku Line.
