Akers was a professional computer programmer for many years. He lives in Denver, Colorado.
[edit] Vegetarianism
He became a Vegetarian in 1978 after reading Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation.
[edit] Theology
He has published on vegetarianism and early Christianity. The Lost Religion of Jesus: Simple Living and Nonviolence in Early Christianity claims that Jesus and his early followers the Ebionites were vegetarian. He suggests that Jesus was a militant vegetarian who kicked people out of the Temple because they were using it as an abattoir for animal sacrifices.[1][2]
