Kerry South is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. The constituency elects 3 deputies (Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs). The method of election is the single transferable vote form of proportional representation (PR-STV).

History and boundaries[edit]

The constituency is located in the southern half of County Kerry, Ireland, taking in the Dingle and Iveragh peninsulas, including the towns of Killarney, Dingle, Cahirciveen, Killorglin and Kenmare.[1]

It was established by the Electoral (Revision of Constituencies) Act 1935 when the former Kerry constituency was divided into the constituencies of Kerry North and Kerry South. It was first used at the 1937 general election electing members of the 9th Dáil.

The Electoral (Amendment) Act 2009 defines the constituency as:[1]

"The county of Kerry, except the part thereof which is comprised in the constituency of Kerry North–West Limerick."
