[edit] Career

[edit] Early career

McDonald was the captain of Carnoustie High Schools boys team in 2001 when they won the first ever Coca Cola 7's cup at Hampden Park.

McDonald had been the subject of a £75,000 bid from Celtic in June 2006 which was rejected by Dundee.[1]

In May 2008, Dundee manager Alex Rae told the media that he would let McDonald leave Dens Park if a suitable offer was received.[2] On the same day it was revealed that Dundee had rejected an offer of £250,000 from English Championship side Burnley.[3]

[edit] Burnley

Burnley had an offer of £500,000 accepted,[4] and he was signed on a three-year deal.[5]

McDonald scored his first goal for the club in a 3–0 win over Derby County oat the end of November 2008.[6]

It was reported in 2010 that McDonald had achieved "infamy" status by going to a pub during half-time after being substituted in a 6–1 thrashing by Manchester City.[7] It was later discovered that he had only attended the pub for a matter of minutes as his father, who was in town to watch the game, sent him back to the ground. He signed for Scunthorpe United on a month's loan in October 2010.

McDonald joined Notts County on loan until the end of the season in February 2011.[8]

[edit] Sheffield United

McDonald was released by Burnley at the end of the 2010/11 season. He then moved to Sheffield United on trial, and subsequently signed a one year contract. He made his début against Brentford on 13 August 2011.[9][10]
