Khind Holdings Berhad or Khind (Chinese: 机兴控股) is a Malaysian distributor and manufacturer of home consumer electrical appliances. It was founded in 1961, by Cheng King Fa,[2][3] in Sekinchan, Selangor, Malaysia. The Company began when its founder Cheng King Fa decided to repair and sell electrical products to the local community of Sekinchan. The Company was then known as Syarikat Letrik Kee Hin.[4][5]
From being just a trader, the Company gradually became a wholesaler of electrical products in the 1970s. In the mid-1980s, the Company started to manufacture its own brand of home consumer electrical products under the “Khind” brand. It received its first order for export from Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 1988. What began as a small order for US$4,000 of electrical items has since become a multi million dollar export business for Khind now.[6][7]
In 1998, Khind embarked on an initial public offering (IPO) and was listed on Bursa Malaysia .[8] At the turn of the new millennium, Khind was able to further expand its brand offering by acquiring “Mistral” – a leading Australian brand for Malaysia and most of Asia.[9]
Recently, Khind was also appointed the principal agent and marketer for two leading Italian brands – “Indesit” and “Ariston”. These two brands offer the Company another channel to further grow its home consumer appliances business.[10][11]
In 2010, Khind had a range of 200 "innovatively-designed"[12] products for the consumer from:
- Rice steamers, Rice Cookers (under the “Anshin” range);
- Blenders;
- Ovens, stoves, hobs, hoods;
- Fans (all types for home and industrial use);[13][14]
- Washing machines;
- Air-conditioners, Air Coolers;
- Emergency lights
- Electrical wiring accessories;
- Energy Saving Lamps;[15][16]
Khind exports its products to well over 50 countries around the globe. Its largest export market is the Middle East region. The Company also exports its products to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).[17] In addition, Khind is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to Japanese and European customers.[18]
In 2011, Khind's subsidiary in Singapore, Khind Systems (SINGAPORE) Pte Ltd, became the exclusive distributor for Utica Pte Ltd.[19]
