Khao Chamao (Thai: เขาชะเมา) is a district (amphoe) of Rayong Province, eastern Thailand. The cycad Cycas chamaoensis is native to a mountain in this district.[1]

The minor district (King Amphoe) was split off from Klaeng district on May 31, 1993[2].
Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15, 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts[3]. With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official [4].

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Bo Thong of Chonburi Province, Kaeng Hang Maeo of Chanthaburi Province, and Klaeng and Wang Chan of Rayong Province.

The district is subdivided into 4 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 21 villages (muban). There are no municipal (thesaban) area, and 4 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
