The Kingdom of Belgium was in exile from 1914 to 1918 during the period of occupation by the German Empire during World War I. The occupation by Germany was not recognized by the Allied powers and Belgium's sovereignty was deemed to have been violated by the United Kingdom, resulting in British intervention against Germany. Belgian sovereignty was restored in November 1918 with the end of the war.
