[edit] History
MARA College Banting is an IB World School since October 1990[1]. Its history began in 1985 when MRSM Seremban (now Kolej MARA Seremban) was used as a surrogate college for students of the GCE A-Level programme. The programme is a preparatory programme recognised for admission into universities abroad. To diversify the number of universities that can be joined by the students, in 1991 the college introduced a new pre-university programme, International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme after receiving recognition from the International Baccalaureate to carry out the programme. To accommodate the growing programmes and students, the college had moved to an 84 acres of land located in Banting. Since July 1, 1992, the college had been operating as MRSM Banting with a total number of 71 International Baccalaureate students from MRSM Cheras and 310 GCE A-Level students from MRSM Cheras and MRSM Seremban.[2]
In 1994, MRSM Banting changed its name to Kolej MARA Banting (MARA College Banting). The IB diploma depicts the name MARA College Banting in the transcript. The college currently has 41 supporting staffs in the Administration Division with 94 qualified lecturers in the Academic Division. The total number of staffs at the college is around 135 people. Since May 2003, MARA College Banting has become a full fledged 'IB World School'. Previously, MARA College Banting offered other pre-university programmes such as GCE A-Level and Matriculation but now only the IB programme.
It is located strategically in Bukit Changgang, Selangor, situated near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Putrajaya. The students take their IB examination in May. Among the subjects offered at this college are Biology HL, Business and Management SL and HL, Chemistry HL, Economics SL and HL, English A2, B SL and HL, Information Technology in Global Society SL, Malay A1 SL, Mathematics SL and HL, Physics HL and Theory of Knowledge.
Although intake to the college is open to all, with history of a few private students, students usually gain entry by winning any of the various scholarships that send students to this college. Among the organizations that offer such scholarships are Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA), Petronas and Felda.
[edit] Vision
The college's main purpose of establishment is to serve as a preparation centre for students to study abroad in their respective fields (determined by the type of scholarship they have won). Many of the students will eventually pursue their major in Accountancy, Engineering, Medicine, Biotechnology, Geology, or Dentistry. Previously, majors like Law, Business Studies, Architecture, Computer Science and Estate Management were also offered to students.
There is a wide range of university placements for the college graduates, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, and the USA.
