Kothapatnam (also called Kottapatnam[1]) is a village and a Mandal in Prakasam district on the Bay of Bengal coast of the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. [2]
Kothapatnam proper is now about two kilometers inland, but the name usually includes the coastal kattumaram fishing village of Pallipalem. The bank, post- and telegraph-office, hospital and panchayat office are all in Kothapatnam, which is 2 km from the fishing village, on the road to Ongole. It is a former seaport, once a major cultural and trade center in the pre-Christian era, which played a vital role in trade with Southeast Asian countries.
