Kumpawat is the name of a branch of the Rathore clan of Suryavanshi rajputs. They claim descent from Rao Kumpa (died 1544), a nephew of Rao Jodha (founder of Jodhpur) and a general in the army of Rao Maldeo Rathore. kumpaji fought his first battle at the age of 11 yrs.
