Kyle Davey is an award winning professional ballet dancer, Choreographer and occasional model, who was born in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia. He began his professional ballet training with The Queensland Dance School of Excellence and then later The Australian Ballet School. Whilst with both schools he was able to dance and tour with both The Queensland Ballet and The Australian Ballet in their tour and also in the Opening Ceremony for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Davey moved to the UK where he joined The New English Contemporary Ballet company as a soloist dancer for 3 years as well as becoming a soloist with The Cork City Ballet, Ireland's critically acclaimed Classical Ballet company. Davey has also made guest appearances with Tivoli Pantomime Ballet and in 2009, Ballets Russes, the UK's Russian ballet company as a Soloist dancer, dancing also principal roles such as the Prince in Nutcracker.
From 2008/09 Davey was engaged as a dancer with Wayne McGregor in his choreography research project DanceLines which took place at The Royal Opera House in London, home of The Royal Opera and Royal Ballet company.
To date, Davey has won several awards which include, Graeme Murphy Award for Excellence in Contemporary Dance, 2006, MacDonalds Ballet Scholarships, Male Ballet Dancer Award 2003.
Davey was signed to Visage Models and The W Athletic agency in London. In 2010, Davey was offered a contract with The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada and began dancing with them in July 2010.
In 2011, Davey was commissioned to create a new work for the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada. The new work, 'Suspiro' made its world Premiere at The Playhouse Theatre in New Brunswick on 11 May and was again staged at the Conn Theare in Halifax, Nova Scotia in celebration of the companies ten year anniversary tour called 'inTENse'. The piece was a pas de deux choreographed and performed by Davey and fellow soloist from the Atlantic Ballet Janie Richard. Davey was the second person to be invited to choreograph an original work for the company.
After a long suffering battle with Anklylosing Spondylitis, a severe medical condition causing the spine to fuse, causing great amounts of pain and discomfort, Davey decided that he would retire from full-time dancing, making his last official performance with The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada in their critically acclaimed ballet 'The Ghosts of Violence' in Toronto, Canada at the very end of their 2011/2012 season, but would continue to dance, performing worldwide on the stage in personal dance projects, choreographies and works.
Davey briefly returned with The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada for the beginning of their 2012/2013 season to star in Phantom : the Ballet, based on the Phantom of the Opera. in the winter of 2012, Davey returned to the stage as a Guest Principal to Perform as the Prince in the Nutcracker in Canada.
Angel film, Streetdance 3D and TV Work
In July 2009, Davey starred alongside fellow ballet dancer Leigh Alderson in the short film Angel, a male pas de deux choreographed by Alderson and directed by David Council for Concept&Graph Films and was produced by Jerry Burns who also provided the soundtrack to the film with her song 'Angel' which also featured in the feature film Crush. The Film had its premiere screening in The Market Place Theatre at The Stars Of The Arts Gala 2010 on 19 June. An Official trailer was released in July for a limited time only to mark its impending release onto iTunes worldwide.
In the winter of 2009, Kyle Davey was featured on The BBC Hit TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance' which began airing on TV in December. The TV show followed Davey's progress to make it into the final top 100 dancers. His journey with the show ended at the top 100. The Show was first broadcast in December 2009.
Charity and The Stars Of The Arts Gala
In February 2010, after the Haiti disaster, a press release was issued in The Portadown Times, Leighalderson.com and Fame Magazine, stating that Leigh Alderson was going to produce a show to raise money for the Haiti disaster. The show, The Stars of the Arts, scheduled for 19 June at the Market Place Theatre in Armagh, Northern Ireland. An impressive list of performers were cited to be performing on the night including famed songstress Jerry Burns. Burns has had her music featured in many hit motion pictures (Cruel Intentions, Crush, Le terbulance et les fluides, Angel). Davey took to the stage with co- star of 'Angel', Alderson, alongside professional ballet dancer Elena Savva. The event was highly publicized, featuring in EVE NI, In Magazine, Ulster Tatler and The Dancing Times amongst others and was featured and covered with the BBC.
Aside from this, Davey is a continuous sponsor, supporter, fundraiser and volunteer for many charities. Being a regular donator and fundraiser to Everychild, fundraiser for Mind the mental health charity, British Red Cross, Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation and being a volunteer and fundraiser for The Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT)
In 2009 Davey collaborated with Award winning Dublin based photographer Karin Pritzel on a collection of artistic ballet shots which have gone on to win several awards and garnered much praise and attention, in digital photography. Whilst still with New English Contemporary Ballet, Davey was involved in another ballet photo-shoot, this time for Jim Rowbotham, to be included in his new dance photography book 'Strictly Ballet'. Kyle made his editorial debut in the June Edition of 10 Magazine.
