The L0 series (L0系, L0-kei?, pronounced "L zero") is a high-speed maglev train on order by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) for use on the Chūō Shinkansen under construction between Tokyo and Osaka in Japan. 14 pre-production vehicles will be built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Nippon Sharyo, a subsidiary of JR Central.[1]
The train is planned to run at 500 km/h (310 mph), offering journey times of 40 minutes between Tokyo (Shinagawa) and Nagoya, and 1 hour 7 minutes between Tokyo and Osaka.[2]
The first 5-car train is expected to begin tests at the Yamanashi Test Track in 2013; and the test track is being doubled in length.[3]
History [edit]
The first L0 series vehicle was delivered to the Yamanashi Test Track and unveiled to the press on 22 November 2012.[4]
