The film is a remake of the 2008 French film of the same name.[6] The remake was written and directed by Lisa Azuelos, who also wrote and directed the original. Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Double Feature Films and Tish Cyrus produced.[5] Filming took place in late 2010 in Detroit, Chicago and Paris.[3][4] A scene in the film showing Miley Cyrus smoking marijuana was cut after a video circulated around the internet in December 2010 of Cyrus smoking the psychoactive plant salvia divinorum.[7][8]
