La Consolacion College Bacolod (LCC-B) is a private, Catholic, co-educational institution of learning owned and administered by the sisters of the Order of St. Augustine in the Philippines. It is located in Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental province.

Established on March 12, 1919 as Colegio de la Señora de la Consolacion by three Augustinian sisters – Sor Tomasa de la Sagrada Familia, Sor Maria Teresa de Jesus and Sor Alfonsa de la Santisima Trinidad, the college is the oldest institution of higher education in the province.[1]

The school has two campuses; the main campus at the corner of Galo and Gatuslao streets and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (LCC-B HTM Center) campus on Quezon Avenue, Bacolod City.

Upon the request of Jaro Bishop, Dennis Dougherty, the three sisters began apostolate work in Negros due to the significant Aglipayan presence in the province. On July 15, 1919, Colegio de la Señora de la Consolacion accepted its first 86 students, 36 of whom were interns who lived in the school dormitory.

The school is named in honor of the Virgin Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted.

  • Integrated School / Day School - K-10 Education based on the 2011 Basic Education Curriculum is followed in the Day School System, a system called Unique by Design is applied by teachers. Special classes in Speech, Math and Science are offered, Speech in all its High School students and Math and Science to students part of the First Section starting from the Freshmen Batch of 2011-2012. Religious education is also implemented in the education system along with bookkeeping, animation and film making applied. A strict rule is followed that if such studentwho get 78 and below not below than 76 in their report card are required to take remedial classes, students who receive an average below 78 at the end of the year, he or she is required to take remedial classes in the summer.

By the school year 2012-2013, a policy is pushed by the administration to introduce a policy favoring the use of Tablet PC and Laptops as an alternative to notebooks, open access to the campus WiFi, addition of Audio-Visual aid to students through installment of Plasma TV and white boards in each classroom starting at classrooms occupying the Galo Wing. An action to shorten class hours is also pushed, making the 5 Day class cycle to 3 days with a 8AM-4PM class and 2 days 8AM-5PM class.

  • Night High School - 4 Year Highschool Education based on the 2011 Basic Education Curriculum is also followed in the Night High School system. The students who are enrolled in this program are financially challenged but deserving students, the method of teaching applied is not limited to tutorials given by teachers but students are expected to learn by their own as there is limitation to tutorials and lectures given by the teachers. Teachers who teach in this program are volunteers from the education departments of the institution. Classes usually start at 4/5PM.

[edit] Discipline

The Integrated School Department sees to it discipline is followed, strict rules regarding discipline are implemented such as that students who have a record of even minor violations on their graduating year will be not listed in the tentative list of marching graduating students. Other than the administrators, faculty, principal, the ASOLC sisters and the Coordinator on Student Formation who all have the power to discipline, an RTC on Discipline is appointed based on student democratic vote and student leaders appointed to help maintain discipline.

The main campus for both the Integrated School and College is located in Downtown Bacolod along the streets of Rizal (College) and Galo-Gatuslao (Integrated School). The buildings that composes the campus are the Basic Education Department Building divided into two wings, the Mother Consuelo Barcelo Activities Center, the main college building, the Sta. Monica Building and the quadrangle.

  • The Basic Education Department Building - Divided into two wings, the Gatuslao Wing which faces the Gatuslao St. is occupied by the Elementary classes of Grade 1-6 and High School classes of Grade 7, 9 and 10, this is where the Chapel and the Elementary Faculty is located, this is probably the oldest structure that exists in the campus. The Galo Wing which faces Galo St. is occupied by the High School Department from Grades 7 and 8, the Pre-school and Kindergarten Department, High School faculty, the Center for Augustinian Formation, President's Office, Grade School and High School Computer Laboratories are all located here. In the meeting point of these two wings the administration, principal and the guidance offices are located. In the evening the night high school and the college students occupy the rooms in both wings. Currently a quarter of the number of classrooms in the Gatuslao Wing are undergoing the second phase of renovation, the first phase was done on December 2011 with a newer chapel and wider classrooms for the High School and Elementary.
  • Main College Building - Consists of laboratories both utilized by the college and the integrated school department, it composes of an internet center, audio-visual room, speech laboratory, little theater, the auditorium, finance office, the clinic, administration offices of the college department and respective classrooms.
  • The Mother Consuelo Barcelo Activities Center - Consists the canteen, print center, college and high school library, respective classrooms of the college and the grade 10 and the audio-visual center. TO this date this building is consider the highest among the rest, it from the 5th floor Bacolod's skyline is visible, it is considered one of the highest structures in the city.
  • The quadrangle - composed of two basketball courts and two volleyball courts, and a stage. An entrance to San Sebastian Cathedral is located here too.
  • The Sta. Monica Building - occupied by the ARFIEN department, it is considered one of the highest structures in the city. An alternative entrance for college students is located here.

  • Ripplets - School publication for the Elementary Department. Its journalists are elementary students who are mostly in their 6th Year and are from the First section of the whole year level. Printed annually.
  • Rays - School publication for the High School Department. Its journalists and editorial staff are High School students who are mostly in their Junior Years or in their 9th and 10th Year (10th year are graduating students) and are from the First section of the whole year level. Printed by semester basis.
  • Ripples - College publication. Its journalists, editorial staff and photographers consists of students from the college department. Unlike publications of the Integrated School; this school publication is in magazine form and is published every 2-3 months.
  • Harmony - The institution's publication for latest updates and news about the school administration, functions, programs, faculty, staff and agreements.

[edit] Events and traditions

The school celebrates mass every first Friday of the month for both Integrated School and College students in San Sebastian Cathedral and at the school auditorium.

  • Mass of the Holy Spirit - In the first Friday or second Friday of the academic year a mass is held for the opening of the academic year and for the new officers of the Student Government Council, Administrators, Team Leaders in subjects and the student body.
  • Feast Days - St. Augustine's, St. Monica's and Our Lady of Consolation's feasts are grand feasts here such as that prayer rallies and events are held in these days and sometimes declared as school holidays. The Feast of the Sacred Heart is also celebrated such as that it is also when the students have their acquaintance party and the parents and teachers alike have the election of officers.
  • First Friday Mass - is celebrated every month in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • Secular and educational events - Nutrition Month, Intramurals (Sports Fest), Science Day, Math Day, Buwan ng Wika/Linggo ng Wika (Month of the Language/Week of the Language), United Nations Week and other events are also held such as that most the events fall in Monday and Friday where opening remarks, closing remarks and major events are held.
  • La Consolite - High School students have a movie festival wherein the students make their own movies and it is showed in the awards night which is held in various hotels around Bacolod. The festival names students who are best in acting, directing and other awards in that night. Alumni homecomings are also held as well as Seniors Night; Proms are not common in school, Seniors Night is the alternative for prom night. 10th Year students are required to make a movie while the 2nd Year students are required to exhibit animated movies and the 1st year a presentation related to Microsoft Office, various awards are given.
