La Madeleine serves a variety of French country fare, ranging from tomato basil soup to quiche lorraine. Food is served cafeteria style for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with menu items changing at each meal. Beverages include French roast and specialty coffees, tea, and an assortment of wines. Traditional French bread and desserts such as Napoleon are served throughout the day at the bakery.
The buildings are designed to resemble restaurants found across the French countryside. Farm tools and impressionist paintings hang on the walls. A fire is kept burning in winter to provide warmth and ambience.
The original store is still in existence, at 3072 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.
