Lakeland High School is located in Shrub Oak, New York. As of September 2010, the principal is Mrs. Cheryl Champ. Thre are two assistant principals - Lorrie Yurish and Christian Mercurio. The student population is approximately 1,100. Lakeland High School is part of the Lakeland Central School District, and is a sister school to Walter Panas High School of Cortlandt Manor, New York. The school colors are gold and green and the school mascot is the Hornets.

The school is home to the Lakeland District Debate Team, which also includes students from Walter Panas High School. The team has a long and distinguished history and competes successfully on a national level, with members regularly qualifying to compete in national championship tournaments. Former coaches Bill Vogel and Greg Varley are members of the prestigious Key Coach Society of Emory University, and Varley was elected to the National Forensics League Coaches Hall of Fame in 1998. Alumni of the team have gone on to successful careers in government, law, medicine, and international human rights and aid organizations.

- T.C. Boyle, Author, taught at Lakeland High School from 1968 to 1972.
- Lawrence Lindsay, Economist, a 1972 graduate, and champion member of the speech and debate team, a former member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve,a professor at Harvard University, and President George W. Bush's former adviser for economic policy.
- Rocco Gioia, Professional Boxer and career Greenville Firefighter, class of 2002.
- Ryan Schneider, 2004 graduate, Professional basketball player in Portugal who played college basketball at Vermont and Marist. He is Lakeland's all-time leading scorer for basketball.
- Sal Lagonia, a 2001 graduate, Writer and Producer for NBC and CBS.
- Herb Trimpe a 1957 Graduate is responsible for designing the school's mascot - The Hornet. In 1956, Art Teacher Pete Tortora asked a talented 11th grader by the name of Herb Trimpe to design the new Lakeland Mascot; a hornet. Earlier that year, the student body voted that the Hornet would be their mascot. Herb designed the very first hornet, the one still used today. Herb Trimpe (LHS 1957) has worked for Marvel Comics for over 30 years and is the artist responsible for the entire Incredible Hulk series, Iron Man, Wolverine and many other famous comic characters.
