History[edit]

The station was opened on 5 November 1988, it was a western terminal station for the East West Line, when westbound train terminates at Platform B before it turnaround utilised nearby crossover to Platform A headed back to the East. It was formerly known as Jurong West station, before Boon Lay was fully opened on 6 July 1990 and the MRT system that time was declared opened by the late President Wee Kim Wee.

Temporary interchange due to JEMP[edit]

The services along the East West Line from Clementi to Jurong East was unavailable from September 4 to 5, 2010, to facilitate the construction of the connector track as part of the Jurong East Modification Project, Joo Koon bound trains terminated at platform A and utilised the nearby crossover to continue to Joo Koon. Two slow shuttle trains also deployed between this station to Jurong East on both platform A and B, as this stretch have no crossover, as the train running towards Jurong East on Westbound track and train running towards Lakeside on the Eastbound track, these two trains ran slowly as it passed a wrong signal, reverse mode were used to run on a wrong direction on the wrong track.

Platform screen doors[edit]

As with most of the above-ground stations built in the past along the East West Line, it was built without platform screen doors to prevent commuters from falling onto the train tracks. After several successful tests at Jurong East, Yishun and Pasir Ris and eventually, installation of the half-height screen doors started on 9 June 2010 and operations commenced on 31 August 2010 along with Bukit Batok.[1]
