Laskoviy Mai (Russian: Ласковый май) is a Soviet boy band from Moscow. The group's best-known member was Yuri Shatunov, who has subsequently gone on to some solo success. Laskoviy Mai and the Uzbek band Bolalar have often been called "the legends of the 1990s.[1]

Laskoviy Mai was created in the middle of 1980s, Sergei Kuznetsov decided to create a group of musicians with orphan children from an orphanage in Orenburg. The group's first album became legendary in the history of the Soviet pop. The style of group is a mix of Western disco pop music made on the synthesizer with plain lyrics and sung with a jazzy voice. The style of this group was revived by the group Ruki Vverh!.
Group Vesyolye Rebyata had a hit "Rozoviy Rozy", but even it could not exceed the popularity of the hit "Belye Rozy" of group Laskoviy Mai. The popularity of this group was similar to the popularity of The Beatles in the Soviet Union at the time.[citation needed]
