Left Handed Astronauts are flying high. On July 20, 1969, left handed Neil Armstrong, became the first man on the moon. One small step for man, one giant left foot for mankind. As you watch the videos of this historic moment (see below) you will see him take the first step with his left foot. Buzz Aldrin, the second man was also left handed.
Perhaps their right brain thinking influenced them to be creative and imaginative enough to accomplish one of the most important feats of our lifetime. Other notable astronauts that were left handed are Jim Lovell (Gemini and Apollo missions) and Wally Schirra (Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions). Growing up during the space race was a very exciting time for a young boy like myself. I remember writing the original seven astronauts and getting autographed pictures back from them. Rockets and spaceships became a reality thanks to many brave men and women.
Being Left Handed and a left handed astronaut is truely inspiring for todays lefties.
