The legality of anabolic steroids varies from country to country. Some, like the United States, have more restrictive laws than others.

By country[edit]

United States[edit]

In the United States, all anabolic steroids are illegal without the use and consent of medical prescription. This was determined by the Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990, which added anabolic steroids to the Schedule III drug list.[1]

Canada[edit]

In Canada, steroids are legal but are Schedule IV drugs, which means there are some exceptions and punishments, but they are less severe.

Mexico[edit]

In Mexico, there is no specification in the law for steroid use, thus making them legal. This has also made Mexico a drug trafficking hotspot.[2]

Iraq[edit]

Anabolic steroids are illegal in Iraq since the U.S. invasion.[3]
