Leo (♌) is the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Leo. In astrology, Leo is considered to be a "masculine", positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered a fire sign and is one of four fixed signs[1] ruled by the Sun.
Individuals born when the Sun is in this sign are considered Leo individuals.[by whom?] Under the tropical zodiac, Leo is occupied by the Sun from July 22 to August 22. Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from August 10 to September 15.
[edit] Characterization
The people under this sign are considered by most modern astrologers to be natural leaders. They are also considered outgoing, proud, warm-hearted, loyal, and wish to excel in all they do. Leo personalities are known to love those they are close with and they wish to protect and defend all those that need it. They are people that enjoy flattery and attention from others but when not loved or when they are not reciprocated they become depressed, self-pitying and self-destructive.[dubious – discuss]
Individuals in this sign need love and recognition from others in order to fully evolve. They have a tendency to indulge themselves or their loved ones in luxury, as they often set high value on aesthetic beauty. Leonians love the expressive arts, and can be avid patrons when they are not participating in creating works themselves. Many strive for public recognition in their career, and may find themselves in the limelight. When offering help to others Leos can be preoccupied with an idealistic vision, and find themselves doing more harm than good.[dubious – discuss]

These can lack in social graces and sometimes indicate coarseness and a poor appreciation for 'niceties' and polite manners. They can also be a little inarticulate, caring more about making their point, than the elegance of the style in which it is made.[5] |

[edit] Compatibilities
The natives of Leo are generally considered to be compatible with the natives of other fire signs, Aries and Sagittarius, and to a lesser extent with the natives of the air signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. However, compatibility based on sun-sign alone is considered to be only a very general guideline. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal relationships is called Synastry.
