Leonardo Rodrigues Pereira or simply Leonardo (born 22 September 1986 in Vila Velha, Brazil) is a Brazilian footballer who plays for AEK Athens in the Greek Super League.[1] Leonardo usually plays as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a winger and a side midfielder. He is recognized for his pace and skills, dribbling ability, place long shots, free kicks and play making. Leonardo has been given the nickname Μικρός μάγος (little magician).
Leonardo was a target of many big Greek teams such as PAOK, AEK Athens, and Olympiacos and was listed as a hot prospect in the Greek Super League alongside Vasilios Koutsianikoulis and Vieirinha.
Leonardo was listed in Brazil's top 10 talents alongside Alexandre Pato and Marcelo.[2] Leonardo was also listed in the 100 Best Young Football Players in the World, published by Spanish magazine Don Balón in July 2009.[3]

On July 30, 2009, Leonardo signed a five year contract for the one of biggest Greek clubs AEK Athens. Leonardo was given the number 9
After signing with AEK Leonardo stated, I was very intended to sign for AEK and I want to thank the Chairman Nikos Thanopoulos and Dusan Bajevic for there intressed in me. I also want to show who I am in the stadium and please the AEK supporters.
On August 20, Leonardo made his official debut for AEK, in the game versus Vaslui in the Europa League.[4] Leonardo made his league debut in the 1-0 away win over Atromitos on August 30.[5]
Leonardo also assisted AEK's first goal against Vaslui on August 27, witch gave AEK the 1-0 lead. He scored his first goal for AEK against Panionios, and was rewared goal of the of week against Kavala, scoring a shot from 30 yards.
Perhaps his most important appearance while at AEK Athens was in the Greek playoffs. AEK was facing Aris Thessaloniki F.C. in a home match and the score was 1-2. Leonardo came in as a substitute in the 51th minute and scored twice, and with the invaluable help of Nacho Scocco (scored once and assisted Leonardo in his 2nd goal) AEK won 4-2. AEK's next ficture was facing Aris again, held in Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium. The score was 1-0 against AEK, and Leonardo (who had also come in as a substitute that match) made the score 1-1 and equalized in injury time, giving AEK an invaluable point. In the 2011/12 season, Leonardo started the season extremely well scoring 3 goals in the Greek Super League and 3 goals in the Europa League.

Leonardo has played for the Brazil U-18 and Brazil U-20 variest times. Leonardo still currently plays for the Brazil U-20's. Leonardo was also played as first choice Attacking Midfielder in the Brazil U-20's, keeping Brazilian starlet Douglas Costa seconed choice.

Leonardo is married to Raica Paulista, the couple have one daughter. Leonardo who came to Greece at the age of 18 can also speak fluent Greek after spending seven years in Greece.
