Galeries d'Anjou
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Galeries d'Anjou is a shopping mall located in the Anjou borough of Montreal , Quebec, Canada. Current major tenants include la Baie, Sears, Zellers and Brick. It is roughly 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m2).
Opened in 1968, its original anchors were the department stores Simpson's and Eaton's, the supermarkets Steinberg and Dominion, and a movie theater Famous Players.
The mall was expanded in 1976 to make room for an additional wing including the arrival of the current Sears. Part of this expansion happened on the space of the former Famous Player movie theater that had closed and been demolished the year before. Thus far, this is the only expansion the mall has had in its history.
Galeries d'Anjou was the largest mall on the island of Montreal for 17 years before being surpassed by Fairview Pointe-Claire in 1985 and Place Versailles in the late 1980s. Despite this, it remains one of largest malls in Greater Montreal.
Galeries d'Anjou is one of Cadillac Fairview's four self-branded "Fashion centres" that also include the Carrefour Laval, Fairview Pointe-Claire and Les Promenades Saint-Bruno. Although managed by Cadillac Fairview, Galeries d'Anjou is co-owned at 50% by Cadillac Fairview and 50% by Ivanhoe Cambridge.
