Lesnovo's three-domed church

Lesnovo (Bulgarian: Лесново) is a village in central western Bulgaria, part of Elin Pelin municipality, Sofia Province. As of 2006 it has 1,829 inhabitants. The village came into existence in 16-17th centuries. Lesnovo has a three-domed Eastern Orthodox church of St Archangel Michael, a rare design for Bulgaria, dating to the early 20th century; it also features pointed arches. Lesnovo Airport, a small new private airport, is located near the village.[1]

Lesnovo lies in the eastern Sofia Valley, between the Balkan Mountains to the north and Sredna Gora to the southeast. The Lesnovo River, a tributary of the Iskar, flows nearby. The village's name is derived from the word les (лес, "forest") with the Slavic suffix -ovo, as reflected in the older Ottoman name Ormanlı and its Bulgarianized version Ormanliya.

Lesnovo has a community centre (chitalishte) called Immortality and a school founded in 1879.
