Libertad LRT Station is a light-rail-transportation station located in Pasay City, Philippines. It is a stop on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other of Manila's LRT-1 stations, Libertad Station is above-ground. The station is located in Pasay City at the corner of Taft Avenue and Antonio S. Arnaiz Street. The station is named after the former Libertad (Spanish for "liberty") Street, which is a junction of both Roxas Boulevard and Taft Avenue in Pasay City. The name Libertad survives as an area name, nowadays, after Libertad Street became a part of Arnaiz Avenue.

Libertad station is the third station for trains headed to North Avenue, the twentieth station for trains headed to Baclaran, and is one of the four LRT stations serving Pasay City, the others are Gil Puyat, EDSA and Baclaran. Near the station, though on opposite sides of the tracks, are the Masagana Citimall and the Libertad Market. Further away, but still close to the station vicinity, are the Pasay City Hall, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, and the Philippine School for the Deaf.

[edit] Transportation links

There are bus terminals for some bus lines near the station, and jeepneys, taxis and cycle rickshaws stop at and around the station entrance. However, buses also stop near the station, for those riding buses that do not stop at the nearby bus terminals.

[edit] Incidents and accidents

  • On December 18, 2007, train operations from Central Terminal to Baclaran were temporarily suspended after a fire in a residential area in Pasay City forced the suspension of operations due to the proximity of one of the burning buildings to Libertad station. Operations from Central Terminal to Monumento still operated as scheduled. Full service was restored after the fire was controlled.[1]
  • On July 17, 2008, train operations were limited from Monumento to Gil Puyat when fire broke out in a 4-story commercial building beside Libertad station at around 2:00 am. Normal operations resumed in the afternoon after the fire was controlled.[2]
