Line 16 is a southern line of the Shanghai Metro network. It was originally designated as Line 21 was planned as the south part of Line 11. This line entirely runs in Pudong District and starts from Longyang Road, Pudong District, via Huinan Town, Shanghai Wild Animal Park, the proposed Pudong Railway Station to Dishui Lake Station. The line is 52.85 km long and has 11 stations. Construction begun in early 2009, and the line opened on 29 December 2013.[1][2] The 2nd phase was completed at the end of 2014, providing interchanges to Lines 2, 7, 11, 13 and 18. It is the only line in the Shanghai Metro planned to feature different stopping services, with an express services stopping only at Longyang Road, Luoshan, Xinchang, Huinan, and Dishui Lake Stations,[3] but as of June 2014 this express service is not yet operational. The line is colored aqua on system maps.

Name change[edit]

The new line was originally designated as Line 21. Shanghai Metro Authorities have sinced changed this to Line 16,[4] and will integrate into the planned transport hub of Lingang city.[5]
