Line A (Czech: Linka A) is a line of the Prague Metro, serving the Czech Republic capital. Chronologically the second line in the system, it was first opened in 1978 and has expanded mostly during the 1980s. Presently it has 13 stations and 11.0 kilometres (6.8 mi) of track.

Construction of first segment started in 1973, part of this segment was also tunnel connecting this line with Line C between stations Muzeum and Náměstí Míru. After completion second segment was started work on the link to the new metro depot Depo Hostivař. Tunnel (3.4 km long) was completed in 1985, second tube in 1987 with the new station Strašnická on that link. Later was added station Skalka, again on that link and station Depo Hostivař, straight in hall of Depot Hostivař (in former wash-stand).

[edit] Future
The first phase of an 18.7 billion CZK extension on the west end is currently under construction, from Dejvická station to Motol, which is forecast to open to the public in 2014. The second phase of this extension will see the line reach Ruzyně International Airport and is set to open by 2021.[1][2]
