The monarchy in Montenegro came to an end in 1918 when the illegal Podgorica Assembly voted to unite Montenegro with the Kingdom of Serbia under the Serbian dynasty. The current pretender and head of the Royal house is Prince Nicholas of Montenegro, who is the great grandson of the last King, Nicholas I.
The succession law used is Agnatic primogeniture.
