Lion's Head is a community in the municipality of North Bruce Peninsula, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. Located at the midway point of the Bruce Peninsula, about halfway between Owen Sound and Tobermory, Lion's Head is just east of Ferndale on Bruce Road 9. Lion's Head is located on the 45th parallel north, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. The town is named after the resemblance of a lion's profile in the rock formation of the Niagara Escarpment.
It is a well travelled holiday spot on the coast of Georgian Bay.
The limestone rock formations make it a scenic area for canoeing, kayaking, hiking the Bruce Trail, rock climbing and visiting the marina-lookout by car.
Bruce Peninsula District School is the only secondary school north of Wiarton, and one of the few schools in Ontario to go from Kindergarten to grade 12.
There are accommodations, restaurants, shops, and galleries all located in Lion's Head. There is also a marina, school, hospital, bank, pharmacy, grocery store and several churches in the town.
- Summer - The summer usually brings more than 3000 tourists to Lion's Head. The week of Canada Day alone, at least 1000 people may arrive into the area. Lion's Head's population mainly consists of travellers/visitors. Most residents do not stay all year round and usually spend some time in their owned or rented cottages. The beach and marina in the town appear to be the main attraction. Also, many individuals enjoy the Bruce Trail, which is located outside of the village.
- Hamlets - (other small areas of population surrounding a main center of population). Lion's Head has several hamlets. These includes
-Ferndale, which holds two gas stations, an ice cream store, other small buildings and farmland. -Isthmus Bay, a road known as Isthmus Bay Road, is an area with many houses and cottages along the shore of Isthmus Bay. -Whippoorwill, a quiet road of mainly cottages and some homes along the coast of Whippoorwill Bay (Isthmus Bay). Also the entrance to the Bruce Trail (begins as side trail). Also, White Bluff is accessible from this area, both from trail and on the shoreline. The area name originates from the Whippoorwill Bird, that was often heard in the area. -Forty Hills, a road, forest, a Bruce Trail parking area and farmland with some residents in the area. Just north of Ferndale. The names originates from the forty hills on the road that enters the area, also named "Forty Hills Road". -Barrow Bay, the area is technically separate from Lion's Head although is still considered a hamlet. It consists of a small bay surrounded by cottages and homes.
