List of programmes broadcast by CITV
CITV is the children's television strand of ITV in the United Kingdom. It first began broadcasting on January 3, 1983 using pre-recorded in-vision links, before moving to a studio format at Central Independent Television in 1987. The name of the broadcast was changed to CITV in 1993 and the presentation reverted to an out-of-vision format, with Steven Ryde providing the voice-overs. In 1998 the logo changed again to CiTV while in-vision presentation returned with a popular studio format. Between 1998 and 2006 the ITV children's programming underwent a number of changes, culminating in the creation of the CITV channel in March 2006 to fall into line with the BBC, who had launched CBeebies and the CBBC Channel four years earlier. It was initially launched only on Freeview, Homechoice and Telewest but was made available on Sky Digital in May 2006.[1][2]
In 2005, ITV were given permission by the independent watchdog Ofcom to reduce the number of hours for children's programming on the ITV Network, the channel that had featured the majority of their children's programmes.[3] The following year, ITV announced that they were ceasing production of children's programmes.[4] The weekday afternoon slot for children's programming began to be populated by quiz shows and drama repeats in 2007,[5] leaving the CITV Channel as the main source of CITV programming. The longest running programme on CITV, Art Attack, began in 1990[6] and ran until 2007,[7] although the series continues to be aired on the CITV Channel.
The current programming broadcast by CITV features a mixture of new British and American shows, along with a variety of shows that were first broadcast on CITV during the 1990s and early 2000s. The older shows include Harry and the Wrinklies, The Big Bang, Art Attack, Bernard's Watch and Mopatop's Shop. My Parents are Aliens, a programme originally broadcast in the early 2000s, continues to be shown daily on the CITV channel.

[edit] Signed Stories
Signed Stories was created by ITV SignPost – ITV’s centre of excellence for multi-platform British Sign Language services – as a resource for deaf children and their families, and for teachers of deaf children. The £1.5million initiative was delivered with some of the world’s leading publishers,as part of the company’s corporate and social responsibility plan to give deaf children access to the best children’s books in their native sign language.
The free website www.signedstories.com has grown in popularity with deaf and hearing children, children with special educational needs and those learning English as a second language – it’s now used by hundreds of thousands of children around the world, at school and in the home.[8]
