The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,[1] commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain,[2] is a sovereign island nation located in the British Isles of Western Europe.[3][4][5] The United Kingdom comprises the island of Great Britain, the northeastern part of the island of Ireland, and a large number of smaller islands.
