This list of billionaires is based on the annual ranking of the world's wealthiest people compiled and published by Forbes magazine on March 11, 2009.[1] The listed net worth represents the estimated value of assets less debt as of February 13, 2009.[2] The list does not include heads of state whose wealth is tied to their position (see List of heads of state and government by net worth). Forbes calculated there were 793 billionaires in 2009.[3]
