Below are some of the important historical events which have occurred at Windsor Castle in the English county of Berkshire:
- 1070 to 1086: Windsor Castle is first built by William I of England
- 1127: Barons swear allegiance to the Empress Matilda
- 1166: William the Lion does homage
- 1193: Barons besiege Prince John
- 1216: Barons besiege King John's men
- 1263: Barons besiege Prince Edward
- 1265: Henry III imprisons the Lord Mayor and forty citizens of London
- 1312: King Edward III of England is born
- 1348: The Most Noble Order of the Garter is founded
- 1400: Conspirators attempt to murder of Henry IV during the Epiphany Rising
- 1421: King Henry VI of England is born
- 1471: Edward IV marches out to fight the Battle of Tewkesbury
- 1506: Philip of Burgundy and Joanna of Castile visit after being shipwrecked on the Dorset coast
- 1522: Emperor Charles V visits
- 1563: Elizabeth I flees the plague in London
- 1597: Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor is reputedly first performed
- 1642: Parliamentary troops occupy the castle during the English Civil War and are briefly besieged by Prince Rupert
- 1645: Cromwell's New Model Army is established
- 1647: Charles I is imprisoned at the castle for two days and then for a month before being taken to Westminster for execution
- 1681: Sir Samuel Morland demonstrates his new system of water supply
- 1688: William of Orange visits for four days just before completing his march on London
- 1809: George III is confined because of insanity
- 1820: George III dies
- 1939 to 1940: George VI and his family seek refuge from the London Blitz
- 1992: the 1992 Windsor Castle fire
