This is a comprehensive list of Taliban killed in the War in Afghanistan.

This article lists most yearly totals, however there are some time frames that are not covered, thus the actual number of Taliban killed could be somewhat higher than the one given here. The Taliban bury their dead quickly and this prevents an accurate body count for them. But, at the same time, these numbers are from news agencies who received the information from ground commanders and they are not official NATO/Coalition counts for the number of Taliban that were killed.

The total number of Taliban killed in the period covered is between 36,994 and 41,170, according to the figures below.

  • 12 militants killed in both Logar and Khost provinces on February 27-28.[1]
  • 6 militants killed and 22 captured in Kandahar, Kunduz, Balk, Nimroz, Wardak, Khost, Ghazni, and Logar provinces on February 26-27.[2]
  • a Taliban leader, Mullah Musazai, was killed in Ghazni province on the night of February 26.[3] In Helmand province, another 8 militants were killed in Washir district, and one other was killed in Musa Qala district.[4]
  • a militant was killed in Maiwand district, Kandahar Province on February 25.[5] 4 other militants were killed planting a mine in The Sabar are of Pacheragam district, Nangarhar province.[6]

  • 8 Militants were killed in the Surkhakan are of Qarghayi district, Laghman province on the morning of February 24.[8] That same night, 7 militants were killed in the Qazal Qallah area of Pashtoon Cot district, Faryab province.[9]

  • A militant was killed in Rodat district, Nangarhar province as well as several others in Shirin Tagab district, Faryab province on February 16.[11]

  • 6 Taliban killed in Ghozi Khil are of Abband district, Paktika province the night of February 12.[16] 2 IED planters were also killed in the Jang-I-Borj are of Mahrof district, Kandahar province on February 12.[17]
  • 7 insurgents killed, 18 arrested in Kabul,Helmand, Uruzgan, Ghaznio, Khost, Paktia, and Herat provinces on February 11-12.[18]
  • 3 militants killed, 12 captured in Nangarhar, Parwan, Helmand, Nimroz, Ghazni, and Khost provinces on February 10-11.[19]
  • 11 militants killed in the Mamuzai area of Orakzai on February 10.[20]
  • 8 Taliban militant skilled in Nijrab district, Kapisa Province and Khost district, Khost Province on January 9.[21]

4,275 militants were killed between March 21 2011 and the end of the year, according to the Afghan government.[53]

  • 18 militants, including a commander, were killed in joint operations throughout the country on 18 December.[54][55][56]
  • 8 Taliban were killed in joint operations throughout the country on December 15.[57]
  • 8 Taliban, including 3 militant commanders, were killed in Kandahar and Maidan Wardak provinces on December 14.[58][59]
  • 14 Insurgents, including 4 who were attempting to plant an IED, were killed by Afghan Security forces on 11 December.[60]
  • 13 militants were killed in joint operations throughout the country on 9 December.[61]
  • 5 militants, including the shadow governor of Kunar Province, were killed by security forces and a coalition airstrike on 7 December.[62][63]
  • 42 Taliban killed throughout the country on 6 December.[64] The same day, 10 insurgents, including an insurgent commander, were killed in a coalition air attack.[65]
  • 3 Taliban, including a would be suicide bomber, were killed on 5 December.[66][67]
  • 8 Taliban killed in joint operations on 4 December.[68][69]
  • 6 Taliban and Al-Qaeda killed in joint operations on 3 December.[70][71]
  • 11 Taliban, including 10 Pakistanis who crossed the border, were killed on 2 December.[72][73]

  • 49 Taliban, including 7 commanders, were killed throughout the country and the main base in Nooristan destroyed in joint operations between 29-30 November.[76][77]

  • 60 Taliban, including 12 Pakistanis, were killed in a joint Afghan-Coalition operation in Nooristan Province between 17 September and 18 September.[91]

  • 2 Taliban mine-planters killed by their own bomb on 13 September.[95] At least 6 additional Haqqani Network insurgents armed with RPGs killed by Afghan and Coalition troops during attacks on the US embassy, Police Station, and NATO headquarters in Kabul.[96][97][98]
  • 12 Taliban Militants killed and 22 captured in joint Afghan-Coalition operations across the country that resulted in the seizure of multiple weapons on 12 September.[99]
  • 4 Taliban killed by Afghan police in Nooristan[100] on 11 September.
  • 3 Taliban killed by Afghan Security forces in an attack on mobile phone towers on 10 September.[101]
  • 1 Taliban killed on 6 September.[102]
  • 10 Insurgents were killed in clashes with Afghan Security forces in Swat Valley[103] on 5 September.
  • 21 Insurgents were killed and 12 captured, including an insurgent commander[104] in NATO operations on 4 September.[105] Also, 8 Taliban militants, led by Mullah Mohammed Noor, were killed in Kandahar when a mine they were making exploded.[106]
  • 9 Taliban fighters were killed and 27 captured by Afghan security forces in fighting across the country on 3 September.[107][108]

  • 20 militants were killed Shahihi Hass district, Uruzgan province on July 29.[159] That night another 4 militants accidentally blew themselves up in Arghastan and Shawalicot districts.[160]
  • 6 militants killed in Wazokhah district, Paktika province on the afternoon of July 30.[161] Another 23 militants were killed in two separate clashes in the afternoon and evening in Garmsir district, Helmand province.[162]
  • 234 Taliban were reported to have been killed between August 1 and August. 28[163]
  • 2,077 Taliban were reported to have been killed between September 1 and December 13[164]
