The following is a list of landlocked states in the United States. They are all located in the U.S. mainland. A landlocked state is defined as not touching the ocean. There are 27 completely landlocked states.


The following is a list of doubly landlocked states in the United States. They are all located in the U.S. mainland. A doubly landlocked state is defined as being surrounded by landlocked states or Canadian provinces. There are 16 doubly landlocked states.


There are 8 states that border on the Great Lakes; however, 7 of the 8 states do not touch an ocean. These are the list of states that do border a Great Lake, but not an ocean.

New York is the only state that borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes.
